A Fast Tour of the Web Site

Inspiration: A friend of mine moved into a retirement home. Every morning she had to put an apple out in
front of her door. If the apple was not there, the member of the staff would enter the room and check upon her.
The principle is that a senior who lives alone need to do something active or else we need to be checked upon. Many areas
have a telephone service that checks daily on us seniors. This service is not satisfactory to me as I am hard of hearing and do
not like to talk on the phone. Also I have to interrupt somebody or have somebody interrupt me. This I do not like.
The answer for me is to use an email service. And thus was the idea was born for Minor's Minder.
Goal: The goal is to have two services available to the Minor's Minder members; they are the "Alert" and the
"Reminder" services. Great emphasis has been placed on the service being user-friendly so that a member is able to maintain
their information themselves. Great emphasis has been placed on the service to be user-friendly so that the member is able
to maintain their information themselves. There are 35 million senior citizens in the United States living alone. It is
mandatory that the service is easy to use and that it remains free of cost to be of the greatest use – that's my goal.
The Two Services: There are two separate services; they are the Alert and the Remind services. The
purpose of the Alert program is to let another person know that you are alright with a minimum of intrusion upon the
other person. This service is tailored to Senior Citizens who live alone; i.e. singles. The Alert service makes
sure that you can be responsive by a certain time of the day or a friend of yours is sent an email. Should you forget
to respond, the worse that can happen is that you will get call from a friend.
Already existing are telephone programs where a person makes a call every morning to let the outside world know that one is
OK. The Alert program is similar to the telephone program except that it is done by email. The principal difference
is that the Alert program is passive to the other person when you are alright. An email is sent to your designated contact
only it you are unresponsive. Thus the Alert program in not nearly as intrusive as the telephone procedure.
The members customize this service for themselves by setting the time of day and the days of the week that will trigger
the email. Each person gets to set their own comfort level in a way that will not interfere with their activities.
A member can turn of the Alert program whenever they travel, take a vacation or will not have access to a computer.
Your children and grandchildren will feel better knowing that you are alright. It is a mental peace of mind
for everyone.
The Reminder calendar service is to make up for our poor memory as we grow older. We are absent minded –
at least I am. You can have up to ten (10) ticklers to remind you of everything from your grandchildren's birthdays to
the payment of property taxes. A member can have up to ten (10) ticklers on the calendar to remind them of everything
from their grandchildren's birthdays to the payment of property taxes. Paying bills on time, thus avoiding late fees
is one way of saving money. Minor's Minder will send an email notification of the item to the subscriber according to
their settings. Most of us will find "memory aids" useful.
The Chitchat pages are for items of special interest to Senior Citizens. They are to be use as a bulletin
board where you exchange information with others that have the same interest as yourself. The Community pages
will cover activities, centers, dating, family, issues, singles and services as they apply to Senior Citizens. The
Finance pages will cover discounts, employment, jobs and resources for Senior Citizens. The Health
pages will provide aging, exercises, mobility, nutrition, pain, yoga and other meditation programs for Senior Citizens.
The Spiritual pages will cover faiths, gifts, quotes, religions and spirituality as they apply to Senior Citizens.
The Travel pages will cover tours, travel, trips and vacations tailored to Senior Citizens. These pages
are for you to trade information with other senior citizens. It can include everything from a favorite recipe to health
aids you have found useful to how to avoid the latest scam. This is your bulletin board to life.
Minor: So who is "Minor?" I am a retired aero-space engineer who loves computers and I have had a barrel of
fun creating this program. My satisfaction comes from completing useful projects. Each of us have our own way
of having fun, this is mine. I was raised in a farming community in northern Missouri, served as a submarine officer
in WWII, contributed to numerous space projects, co-discoverer of 62 minor planets (asteroids) and will never learn how to
retire.
